The Guam Senior Little League (15-16) Baseball All-Star team will play the Philippines in the championship game of the Asia Pacific Regional Baseball Tournament on Thursday, June 29 at 1 p.m. on Saipan.
“The Philippines brought a lot of pitchers — some really good, tournament-level pitchers — our boys have to make that adjustment because they’re not used to that,” said manager Gene McDonald, “so they just have to stick with the plan and not over swing or over power the cuts, get productive outs and situational hitting.”
The team of 16 boys includes: Avery Aromin, Joshua Calvo, Jake Carbullido, Joshua Duenas, Enrique Untalan, Aaron Jamanila, Rico Castro, Manuel Babauta, Aidan McDonald, Kobe Quiambao, Calvin Aguon, Nicklaus Charfauros, Ethaniel Cali, Kessler Tudong Jr., Joe Young II, Jayce Concepcion.
On the coaching staff with McDonald are Head Coach Vick Fernandez, and Assistant Coach Vince Carbullido.
The winning team in the ASPAC Regional Tournament, which runs from June 23 to June 29, will go on to the Senior Little League World Series in Eastley, S.C. from July 29 to Aug. 5.
“Our aces will be stepping up and we expect a low scoring game,” said McDonald.
The Guam team previously played the Philippines in this tournament and won by one run, 5-4on Saturday, after being down 4-0 after three innings. Guam also beat Saipan 5-3 the day before, but lost to them three days later, 10-5.
