Martinez Brothers to be Inducted into ABQ Professional Baseball Hall of Fame

The Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame will welcome brothers Ramon, Pedro and Jesus Martinez to its ranks on Saturday, April 8. The trio of brothers are scheduled to appear and will be inducted together in an on-field ceremony at Isotopes Park.

There were just three seasons from 1988 – 1997 when a Martinez brother was not a member of the Albuquerque Dukes. Ramon (1988-89), Pedro (1991-93) and Jesus (1995, 97) combined for a 33-15 record in 83 games, a 3.85 ERA and 424 strikeouts over 427.1 innings pitched during their collective time in Albuquerque.

The eldest of the Martinez brothers, Ramon was also the first to pitch in Albuquerque, appearing for the Dukes during the 1988 and 1989 seasons.   The 1989 season was a breakout year for Ramon, going 10-2 with a 2.79 ERA en route to being named a PCL Mid-Season and Post-Season All-Star. His 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings in 1989 are the best in Albuquerque Triple-A history among pitchers with at least 18 starts. Ramon finished his time in Albuquerque with a 15-4 record, 2.78 ERA and 176 strikeouts in 28 games.

Pedro appeared in parts of three seasons with the Dukes, toeing the rubber in Albuquerque from 1991-93. After making his Triple-A debut in 1991, Pedro was named a PCL All-Star in 1992, leading the Dukes with 20 starts and 124 strikeouts that season. He started Opening Day for the Dukes in 1993, however, that was his last appearance in the Minor Leagues for the next 17 years. Pedro Martinez was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015.
